Back Road number six

dabitch — Sunday, March 5, 2006 - 22:30

Another house we almost got was this one, on Bagvej #6 - back road number six.

The first time I was there, I wasn't impressed. The house needs a lot of renovating and didn't have some of the spacious details that the house I already fell in love with had. We went back for a second look anyway, and this green room with the garden doors was what sold me, the right shape and size, and maybe this ceiling could look good too. I demand high celings and wasn't sure this was high enough. ;) This is why it's so hard to find a good house, most people lower their ceilings in an effort to battle heating costs. Idiots. There are better ways.

This room would make a great room for Perle as both doors in are lower than all the other doors of the house. I thought she might like that.

The people who rented this before, lived in the "renovated" two rooms, and had a serious fly problem. Ugh. They kept their cows in the small animal (not large animal, like cows) stable and never let them outside! So they were evicted due to cruelty to animals.

The main building had two stables with it, one on the left and one on the right. Major selling point as they are beautiful buildings. Red brick and wood.

This stable was to be my work house. Where I'd have all the space in the world to paint and get messy. Great!

The owner wanted to do most of the renovation and then sell, we agreed and sent him a list of what needed to be done and how. He never got back to us. I guess he didn't expect such a detailed list. Perhaps he just wanted to fake it with a little paint? Who knows.
So this house is still for sale, and needs a little tender loving care. Or a lot, the roof needs to be completly redone in the next 3 years, the beams holding the roof up need replacing as they've been chewed on by woodbeetles. The entire house needs proper insulation, and regular glasfiber between the brick walls won't cut is some bricks are turned to point inward, and they'll lead the cold through the walls. It's going to have a serious foundation problem as well soon as the rain is lead straight down to the foot of the house, making the ground too soft and moist. They better get this fixed this year or you can throw it all away.

AARGH! The Estate agent just called on this one, what three or four weeks after we last sent him an email? I didn't know what to say so I just told him we had bought elsewhere because we don't have time to wait around. Now this is true, but now I feel massivly guilty. Plus my curiosity hasn't been satified - why did it take him so many weeks to call back? I tried calling him back up immeditaly afterward, but he had pissed off home by then it seems.

why do I feel guilty? Not fair.
